    What To Know: On this day in 1884, Eleanor Roosevelt was born in NYC. By age 10, both her parents had passed away and she lived with her grandmother. At 15, she went away to school in England and later met and married Franklin Roosevelt – her distant cousin. She later became the longest-serving First Lady,as well as a mother of six. After her husband’s death, she continued in politics and became a respected humanitarian leader. She helped draft the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948; this, she thought, was her best achievement. From 1935 until her death in 1962, she wrote a daily column called “My Day.”
